Bettie Harriman, past president of the American Birding Association and the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology, staffed the desk for Bird City Wisconsin at the “Toward Harmony with Nature” conference on native plants and natural landscapes sponsored by the Fox Valley (Wis.) chapter of Wild Ones. The event allowed Bird City to reach an audience of more than 300 in its effort to enlist local officials and conservationists committed to making their communities a better place for people, birds and other wildlife. Bird City, which has received key support from TogetherGreen, announced in January that it had awarded recognition to 10 additional communities in its innovative and collaborative approach to urban bird conservation. The awards brought to 39 the number of cities, villages, towns and counties its has enrolled. Harriman helped Oshkosh become one of the inaugural 15 Bird City communities.
